A 7-month pregnant woman was beaten to into coma on Wednesday, June 11 for allegedly taking shelter in a shop in the commercial city of Onitsha during a downpour.
The victim named Mrs. Chunyere Atuegwu was said to have run into the shop for shelter and the shop owner pounced on her and beat her to a state of coma, after which he pushed her into the pouring rain.
According to her husband, Mr. Okey Atuegwu, he got report that a trader at No 12 Bright Street, Onitsha had beaten his wife into coma and when he got to the hospital he asked his wife what had happened.
She then explained to him how she was pushed and molested by the suspect just because she ran into his shop to take refuge due to the heavy rain.
“I am still shocked as to why a fellow family man could do this to his fellow man’s pregnant wife,” he lamented.
An eyewitness said the neigbours who were not happy with the action of the shop owner reported the matter to the Central Police Station, CPS, Onitsha.
The shop owner was later arrested and he is being detained at the station.
The suspect has made useful statement concerning the incident to the police.
