What Ghana’s Government Has To Say About It’s Football Fans Seeking Asylum

Following a report that some Ghanaians were seeking asylum in Brazil, the Ghanaian government has said there is no religious violence in the country.

A statement from the Deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu said “The basis for this alleged request is completely false as no religious conflict is taking place in Ghana.

“Ghana’s mission in Brazil has been instructed to liaise with the Brazilian authorities to investigate the matter.”

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga told the BBC he doubted this.

According to an earlier report, the Ghanaians seeking asylum were part of the official group of 650 fans sent to Brazil to support the national team.

The fans said they were Muslims fleeing religious conflict in their country.
