Hundreds of residents of Sunyani, Brong-Ahafo regional capital, have benefited from the Vodafone Ghana HealthFest free screening programme.

The Saturday’s exercise which took place at the Urban Council JHS compound at Penkwase saw about 1,000 people of all ages undergoing free health screening for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, Hepatitis B and glaucoma.

Daniel Kissi Asiedu, Corporate Communications Manager of Vodafone, told DAILY GUIDE that the health initiative, spearheaded by Vodafone Foundation, the charitable arm of the company, is aimed at improving the health status of people by providing free health screening and care for deprived communities across the country.

Mr Asiedu pointed out that the one-year-long exercise was introduced earlier this year with three regions namely, Greater Accra, Ashanti and the Brong-Ahafo benefiting from it so far.

According to him, the HealthFest train would be moving to other parts of the country in the coming months with its team of doctors and other health professionals for the free health screening for some specific ailments common with the people.

He indicated that doctors and dieticians were available at the screening to advise the beneficiaries on the necessary actions to take to safeguard their health, while gym and aerobics centre were also set up for the residents to exercise to promote healthy lifestyle and well-being.

Mr Asiedu advised Ghanaians to live a healthy lifestyle and also know their health status by regularly undergoing health screening.

He seized the opportunity to encourage the populace to take advantage of the Vodafone Healthline by dialing 255 daily between 4:00pm and 10:00pm for expert health advice.
