The United States Department of Defence AIDS Prevention Programme (DHAPP) has donated items worth GH¢ 100, 000 to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) HIV/AIDS programme (Public Health Department), 37 Military Hospital.
The items were to help GAF provide quality HIV/AIDS prevention and care services at the 37 Military Hospital.
The items donated included Dell computers, office cabinet, office desks, air conditioner, chairs and rubber buckets.
The DHAPP is funded under the US president’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and implemented by Jhpiego Ghana.
The project’s goal is to contribute to GAF’s efforts to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on GAF beneficiaries, who are soldiers, their families, Ministry of Defence (MoD), civilian employees and local communities.
The Director General of Medical Services, Col Mahama Alhassan, commended the US government for the support, assuring that the items would be put to good use.
He assured that the relationship between Jhpiego and the GAF Medical Services would be strengthened in order to fight against HIV/AIDS.
Dr Angela El-Adas, Director General, Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) commended GAF HIV/AIDS programme for its effort in combating HIV/AIDS in the country.
Some officers of GAF HIV/ AIDS programme were given certificate of recognition in their great efforts in vastly improving HIV/AIDS care and treatment services.
