Uneasy Calm In GYEEDA Over Transfer Of Deputy Directors

There is an uneasy calm crippling into the activities of the already inactive Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) following the desperate attempt by Mr. Kobby Acheampong, the Executive Director of the Agency to embark on a nationwide transfer of deputy directors of the programme.

This came to light during a meeting held at about 10am on June 14, 2014 by the Executive Director of the Agency Mr. Kobby Acheampong with all regional and deputy directors at his office in Accra.

Mr. Acheampong a former Deputy Minister for Interior said at the meeting that the exercise was among other things to inject some efficiency and effectiveness into the day to day activities of the Agency.

According to him, despite not doubtful of the capabilities of the deputy directors, the restructuring exercise would help address the unnecessary pleasure from Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) over inability to recruit their members onto the programme.

He explained that, many a time, the deputy regional directors are brought or recommended by the MMDCEs hence turn their anger on regional and deputy directors in an event that their recommended candidates were not picked.

But according to some of the deputy directors, apart from the famous GYEEDA saga, the programme since the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) took over has suffered many setbacks.

They mentioned delay in salary, no impress among others which have affected the smooth running of otherwise well planned initiative which aimed at addressing the unemployment situation in the country.

According to the workers, though the intention behind the exercise was important, it would be meaningless to transfer them since the programme is inactive now.

The deputy directors have however raised serious reservation over the exercise and have called on the Executive Director to abort the plan since the programme is already having a miscarriage, hence any attempt to deepen its wounds would be disastrous.

They have therefore called on the Executive Director to immediately hold on with the exercise.
