Two hunters have been remanded in prison custody for allegedly mistaking their hunting partners for game and shooting them dead.

The accused, Fuseini Iddrisu, 25, and Abdul Rahman, 36, have been provisionally charged with murder and the docket sent to the Attorney-General’s Department for advice.

Their victims, Hamidu Bayorbor, 45, and Ahmed Abubakari, 24, have since been buried.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in Wa yesterday, the Upper West Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Edmund Nyamekye, said the two cases happened separately at Kojopere, near Funsi in the Wa East district, and Jeyiri in the Wa municipality.

In the first incident, which happened on February 10, 2014, Mr Nyamekye said Bayorbor went on a hunting expedition with Iddrisu.

He said while in the bush, the two friends took to different directions in search of game.

Unfortunately, he said, Iddrisu mistook Bayorbor for an approaching antelope and shot him.

With regard to the second incident, Mr Nyamekye said the two friends, Rahman and Abubakari, went on a hunting expedition around 11 a.m. on February 12, this year at Jeyiri in the Wa municipality during which Abubakari mistook Rahaman for a game and shot him in the ribs.

The PRO said Rahman was rushed to the Wa Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
