Tunisia: Nineteen Figures Threatened With Death By Ansar Charia – Interior Ministry
Tunis — Nineteen figures including politicians, journalists and artists had been threatened with death by Ansar Charia, Director-General of Public Security at the Interior Ministry Mustapha Ben Amor said.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday by the Interior Ministry to shed further light on branding Ansar charia as a “terrorist organisation,” Ben Amor said the figures targeted by this organisation are namely President of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Mustapha Ben Jaafar, Secretary-General of Nidaa Tounes Taieb Baccouche, Secretary-General of Al-Joumhouri Party Maya Jeribi, NCA member Slaheddine Zahaf, NCA member Salma Baccar, NCA member and head of Ennahdha political bureau Ameur Larayedh and theologian Férid El Beji.
On the assassination list are also many journalists and communicators, namely Sofiane Ben Farhat, Nawfel Ouertani and Néziha Rjiba (Om Zied), in addition to intellectual Olfa youssef, poet Sghaier Ouled Ahmed and Chairwoman of the Tunisian Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Union (UTICA) Wided Bouchamaoui.
Besides, anti-terrorism squads of the police and the National Guard uncovered a plot of Ansar Charia to carry out attacks against companies, including “Air Liquide,” and UTICA premises, the same source added.
The Interior Ministry, the official indicated, had taken the necessary measures to ensure the protection of some figures threatened with murder. It has mobilised officers from the Directorate of the Protection of Personalities and Official Institutions or special squads, in addition to creating specialised units.
