Tower Companies Join Telecoms Chamber

ATC TOWER Limited and Helios, a HTG Managed Services company, have joined the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications.

The two infrastructure companies join five multinational mobile network operators who are foundation members of the Chamber, which was established in 2010.

Thomas Sonesson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ATC Ghana and Reine Tieku, General Manager (GM) of Helios, will serve on the Governing Council of the Chamber with Afua Koranteng and Mark Made as their respective alternates.

The Chamber’s primary objective is to support the overall development of the telecommunications industry in Ghana through institutional partnerships.

Its foundation members are Airtel, Expresso, MTN, Tigo and Vodafone.

Tower companies entered Ghana’s telecom industry in 2010 after mobile network operators began outsourcing the management and maintenance of their tower infrastructure.

This was to ensure compliance with guidelines requiring co-location of antennae to minimize public agitation against the siting of towers in communities.

ATC Ghana currently manages over 2,000 tower sites, including in-building distributed antenna systems (IDAS) and other wireless infrastructure solutions whilst Helios manages over 700 tower sites.

Helios has invested over $85million since its entry with ATC Ghana also making significant investments in the country

Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Telecommunications, said: ‘We are delighted to have ATC Ghana and Helios join the Chamber.  We’re eager to work with them to further enhance the smooth deployment of infrastructure in our communities towards achieving universal coverage.’
