The 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil is drawing near. The player of the Ghana Black Stars team called up by coach Kwesi Appiah in his provisional squad have started flying in and are set for their first training at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Looking past the few weeks until the finals begin, Black Stars midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has acknowledged the tough group Ghana has been drawn into.

Boateng who played against Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2013/2014 UEFA Champions League singled out Portugual as a tough opponent if the World Player of the Year is fit.

The Black Stars player told reporters in Germany:
‘The group is very strong. If Cristiano Ronaldo is fit, it will be very hard to beat Portugal. Germany, Ghana and the USA will have to fight for the other points.

‘These are 90 minutes of football, nobody needs to be afraid. The German team has extraordinary qualities; they have individual players that can decide a single game by themselves. I think the only one you really need to look out for is Marco Reus.’

Kevin-Prince Boateng also spoke about his role going into the tournament in Brazil. He said of his position on the football pitch for the Ghana national team:

‘I hope behind the forwards. I believe that’s where the coach sees me. We have two strong defensive midfielders with [Michael ] Essien and [Sulley] Muntari. I hope I can play on my favourite position where I can act freely.’

Ghana play their first game at the tournament on Monday, June 16 against USA before playing Germany and Portugal on June 21 and June 26 respectively.
