As in the yesterday’s video the sect leader Abubakar Shekau claimed responsibility for the kidnap and promised to sell the victims in the market, Al-Azhar said that harming the girls “completely contradicts the teachings of Islam and its tolerant principles” and urged the insurgents to free the children.
It would be recalled that more than 230 school girls were abducted in Chibok, Borno State, in the night raid by Boko Haram gunmen in the night of April 14. While some of them managed to escape, the majority are still missing.
The new video has increased fears that the girls have been ferried to the neigbouring countries.
The unprecedented crime has caused both national and international rage. Numerous countries, including USA, have suggested their full assistance in connection with the case.
