Tony Lithur Heads Airport Comapny
President John Dramani Mahama’s lawyer in the just-concluded Presidential Election Petition, Anthony Lithur, has been appointed as Chairman of the newly- constituted Board of Directors at the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
Mr Lithur, whose wife, Nana Oye Lithur, is also the Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, replaces George Kuntu Blankson, a former NDC Member of Parliament for Mfantseman East, who was a close friend of the late President John Evans Atta Mills as the Chairman.
The recent infighting between the board and management at GACL which many believed led to the sacking of its Managing Director Mrs Doreen Owusu-Fianko, might have compelled the President to reconstitute the board so quickly.
Officials of the Public Sector Workers Union (PSWU) of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) queried what they saw as the dubious dismissal of the Managing Director by the board but that could save her from retaining her position.
Other members constituting the board are Dr Ebenezer Ayirebi Acquah, Irene Marfo, Betty Solomon Aryeh Gizealla Agbotui and Vitus Anaab-Bisi, a release from the Presidency said yesterday.
In what could be described as job for the boys, Samuel Codjoe who assisted Tsatsu Tsikata to lead the NDC during the landmark election petition was also put on the reconstituted board of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Former president of the Association of Ghana Industries, Tony Oteng Gyasi, has been appointed Chairman of the ECG.
Other members are Dr Kwasi Apea Kubi, a former Eastern Regional Minister; John Jinapor, a Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum; Dr Ofosu Ahenkorah, of the Energy Commission; Dr Clement Abavana, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Omanhen of Abeadze Traditional Area who is also a member of the Council of State; Eunice Comnashar and the Managing Director the Company Hutton Mensah.
Radio Gold’s Alhassan Suyuhini was also picked as a member of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Board (GCAA), in addition to his role as spokesperson for the Hajj Committee set up by the government to oversee the arrangement of pilgrims to Mecca.
There are also a couple of serving military officers who have been appointed to some of the boards.
Air Vice Marshall Christian Edem Dovlo for instance is the Chairman of the GCAA board. The Air Vice Marshall was the immediate past Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre and a former Director General of Personnel Administration at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Other members of the GCAA Board are Captain Daniel Gomez, Yaw Benneh, Sanja Anita Morrison, Peggy Addo and the Director General of the GCAA, Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey (Rtd).
The Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC) has also been reconstituted with Finance and Economic Planning Minister, Seth Terkper as Chairman.
Other members are the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong; Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Nii Armah Ashitey; Minister for Trade & Industry Haruna Iddrisu; TUC Secretary-General Kofi Asamoah; Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Dr Wordsworth K. Odame-Larbi and Colonel Anthony Adokpa of the Ghana Armed Forces.
