By Helena Selby
Three drivers are awaiting trial at a Tema Circuit Court for allegedly robbing, at gunpoint, a household at Community 4 in Tema.
Kelvin Appiah, Abubakari Sadique and one Midjemah, who is currently at large, attacked the complainant and his wife with a locally manufactured shotgun and a pistol.
They succeeded in entering the house and made away with a plasma television, silver chains, and a sum of GH¢4,790, but were arrested the next day at their hideout.
Kelvin Appiah and Abubakari Sadique are facing charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. Kelvin Appiah and Abubakari Sadique pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against them before the court presided over by Ms Lydia Marfo, and have been remanded into custody to re-appear before the court on November 12, 2013.
On October 9, 2013, at about 8:00 p.m., the complainant, together with his wife and their little child, went to bed.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Kyeremah, told the court that at about 1:30 a.m., Kelvin Appiah, Abubakari Sadique and Midjemah invaded the house of the complainant, after having armed themselves with the said weapons and ammunition.
He said the accused persons fired shots and succeeded in breaking a portion of the door after the complainant’s refusal to open it.
According to him, Kelvin Appiah pointed his gun at both the complainant and his wife through the broken portion of the door, and threatened to kill them should they refuse to open the door, to which they obliged.
‘Kelvin Appiah, Abubakari Sadique and one Midjemah entered the room and made away with 21 inches plasma television, pairs of shoes, 50 silver chains, three phones, and cash sum of GH¢4,790,’ the Prosecutor stated.
Inspector Kyeremah mentioned that a complaint was lodged with the police, and the accused persons were arrested the next day at their hideout.
He said upon their arrest, a search conducted revealed some of the complainant’s stolen items – the plasma television and some of the silver chains. A further search also led to the discovery of the weapons used in the attack.
