In a bid to prevent a repeat of the over 276 schoolgirls kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Borno almost two months ago, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved an additional $10 million to finance safe school project across the country.
This disclosure was made on Thursday, 12 June, 2014 by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, when she received a delegation of German investors, the Ambassador and the German Minister for Co-operation and Development, Mr. Gerd Muller, in Abuja.
Okonjo-Iweala noted that President Jonathan has approved that a matching $10 million be added to the safe school project to complement the one made available by the Nigerian business community during the World Economic Forum in Abuja last month.

The finance minister stated this while responding to enquiries on the latest development on the whereabouts of the missing girls.
She however stated that President Jonathanhas instructed her to work with former British Prime Minister, Mr. Gordon Brown, on the project.

Okonjo-Iweala informed that the fund will be used to strengthen security and safety in schools across the country.
According to her, the exercise will take off from the North East Zone of the country.
It could be recalled that the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram are still holding hundreds of schoolgirls they kidnapped at the Government Girls Secondary Schooll in Chibok, Borno State on 14 April, 2014.
Leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau said in a video he released a couple of weeks after that he would not let the girls go until the federal government releases some of his members captured by the Nigeria soldiers.

A demand the federal government has turned down, saying it would never negotiate with terrorists.
Both the Nigerian government and the international community have promised to ensure that the abducted girls are rescued alive.
A promise many Nigerians are hoping and praying comes to pass weeks after it was made.
