The Church in Ghana can better superintend and deliver the construction of government’s 200 model Senior High Schools across the country, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey has said.

Martey, who also chairs the Christian Council of Ghana, has therefore called on government to handover the planned project to the Church.

He says the Church can do the work prudently and excellently than the government, because it has the track-record and experience in the educational sector.

‘Government should channel the funds for the establishment of the 200 SHSs to churches like the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, because we understand and know the field very well when it comes to education and can deliver best’, he declared.

Rev. Prof. Martey, made the suggestion when Unibank donated a double cabin Nissan Nevara Pick-Up to the Presbyterian University College at the ongoing 14th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Abetifi in Ghana’s Eastern Region Saturday.

He recalled that the Church in Ghana was the first to start educating citizens and establishing schools in the country, and has continued to do so efficiently and effectively, adding that, government must consider these track-records and equip the Church with the needed resources to set up these schools.

Presenting the vehicle, the Chief Executive Officer of Unibank, Mr. Felix Nyankopong commended the church for its enormous contributions to the development of education in the country.

He said the bank believes in the provision of quality, affordable and accessible education and added that the Presbyterian Church is showing the way in that direction, which is worth commending.

Mr. Nyamkopong assured the church of the bank’s continued relationship in providing efficient financial services to its congregations across the country.

The Presbyterian Church of Ghsna has 487 kindergarten and nursery schools, 984 primary schools and 399 junior high schools across the country. The church also has over 30 SHS, 40 private schools, 6 vocational institutions, 5 teacher training colleges, and a research centre.

Apart from the Presbyterian University College, the Church also has the Akrofi Christaller Institute for Theology and Missions, which is the first university to get a Presidential Charter to award Doctorate Degrees.
