Teenager arrested in car-snatching attempt


A teenager who attempted to snatch a pastor’s car at Afienya at gun point has been arrested by the police.

The suspect, Michael Narh, alias Nat, a 19 year-old auto mechanic,  attempted to escape when a policeman arrived at the scene but was arrested.

His accomplice, one Kwabena, is on the run, while Narh, who sustained various degrees of injuries in his attempt to escape, was arrested by the police officer, with the aid of some good Samaritans.

  Gun point 
Relating the incident, the Dodowa Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Mr Kwesi Ofori, said at about 5 p.m. on April 20, 2014, a pastor of the Great Miracle Faith Chapel, Mr Alex Dzimado, was attacked in front of his house at Afienya Mataheko.

The robbers, he said, pointed a gun at the victim and asked him to give them his car keys.

When the pastor questioned why, Mr Ofori said the robbers hit the man of God on the head with the butt of the pistol.

According to Mr Ofori, while the victim bled profusely to the extent of impairing his visibility, the two men took the keys of his Toyota Corolla from him.

He said one of the robbers immediately got into the car and tried to escape with it.

However, the victim managed to raise an alarm which attracted the police officer who was nearby and some residents.

  Car run into a ditch 
The police officer and the good Samaritans, the Dodowa Commander said, tried to pursue the robbers who were escaping on the motorbike and in the car.

He said as the car snatchers were being pursued, their car ran into a ditch, while the good Samaritans who were chasing the one on the motorbike managed to knock him off the bike.

One of the two attackers, identified only as Kwabena, fled, while Narh was arrested and taken to the EMEFS Police Station near the Michel Camp. 

The car was damaged, while the motor was also mangled.

It is believed that Kwabena, sustained some level of injuries and the police have cautioned health facilities in the Afienya community and its surroundings to be on the look out.
