Tanzania/Gambia: Gambia Prepares for Tanzania
In a last-ditch attempt to redeem the chequered image of the Senior Scorpions, Bonu Johnson has commenced training with his squad and looks to wreck havoc on the Taifa Stars World Cup hopes with his first victory as coach. Tanzania travels to Banjul for the final match of the World Cup qualifier in a bid to usurp second placed Morocco, but Peter Bonu Johnson is determined to throw sand at Tanzania’s audacious ambition and has called up a troop of local-based players for work outs this week. Bonu has lost two games under his flagship as team tactician -the first beginning with a 2-1 defeat to Algeria and the second to rampaging Ivory Coast. But the ex-Gambia U-20 technical bench top dog is out to turn things around at least to finish the campaign on a high standing following consecutive game loses that have seen Gambia pick just a point and on the table basement.
There has been no official statement from the Gambia football Federation and it is unclear whether Bonu Johnson will recall foreign-based players for the duel giving the little significance attached to this game. Gambia crosses daggers with the Taifa Stars September 7th – a side with majority of its players trading in the Tanzanian top fight with the exception of two players plying with DR Congo and record Africa Champions league club holders TP Mazembe.
