4daf147740144 508057 Tamale: We Will Protect You Police Assures ResidentsA group in the Northern Region of Ghana has threatened to take drastic measures if the Ghana Police Service do not arrest certain persons believed to be masterminds of mayhem in the municipality.

The group, calling itself ‘Kandahar boys’ have sworn not to allow peace to prevail in Tamale until the police arrest three persons they believe killed their colleague Mohammed Nasiru.

Nasiru was shot over the weekend and this was followed by the death of 25-year-old Rashid Mustapha.

Explaining circumstances leading to the death of their colleague to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Anyass Gazali, Spokesperson for the Kandahar boys said: “On 8th March, one of our members; Nasiru received gunshots from known assailants: Abdallah also known as Dallas and two others. The three escaped…when Nasiru was taken to the hospital, doctors confirmed that he received several gunshots…he could not survive, he died on 10th March 2014”.

According to him, after the incident, they went to the police with a doctor’s report as well as names of the alleged assailants but the police refused to act on it.

He added: “This is not the first or second or third; this is the fifth time that a member of our group has received gunshots from a person within the Tamale metropolis…We have nothing to do with violence; we have no intention of intimidating anybody.”

But “until these gentlemen are arrested the public should not expect that there will be peace within Tamale metropolis…the police needs to do something because so long as Dallas and the rest are walking about, residents are not safe.”

Responding to this on the same platform, ACP Kojo Appiah-Adjei, Deputy Northern Regional Police Commander asked the group to rather assist in investigation.

He confirmed that the issue has been reported but assured residents that there is no cause for alarm. “We assure the public that we are on the ground and we will be able to protect them.”

According to him, if it is proven that those names mentioned are guilty, “they will be arrested; they are not above the law.”
