IGP Sacks Personnel Of MTTU In Sunyani

The Police Administration has announced the sacking of all police personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Police Service in Sunyani following allegations of corruption leveled against them.The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has also directed that all the MTTU personnel in the Regional Headquarters be transferred from their current locations with immediate effect.The Director-General of the MTTU, ACP Angwutubuge Awuni, confirmed to Accra based Joy FM on Friday that everyone, from the Regional MTTU Commander down to the lowest ranked officer in the Unit, had been affected by the directive.He said the IGP was not happy with the conduct of the affected personnel numbering about 30 who were said to have compromised their professional standards.Daily Guide was hinted that ACP Awuni stormed Sunyani on Thursday in an unannounced fact-finding mission to authenticate the truth or otherwise of the allegations.It was not clear to the public what actually had caused the mass transfer of the Brong Ahafo MTTU headquarters personnel from the region.ACP Awuni further indicated that the Police Administration would continue to monitor the conducts of the affected officers in wherever Units they would be sent to.He described corruption as a national canker which needed the collaboration of all Ghanaians to join the efforts of the police administration to raise a crusade to fight against it.

Two arrested for setting another part of Tema Comm. 1 market ablaze

The Police have arrested two persons in connection with another fire outbreak at the Tema Community One market Friday.They are Aaron Adomako and and Florence Adomako; both siblings.The team of security men made up of police, Fire Service and Tema Metropolitan Assembly Security Guards; say they acted swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading.Preliminary investigations have revealed that the structure that caught fire is a container used as a book shop.This is the second time in ten days that sections of the same market have caught fire.Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur told JOYNEWS Anna Agyapong that the suspects, who have been charged on two counts – unlawful entry and causing damage - have been remanded in police custody.They are to reappear in court on July 18, 2013.

3 Cops Arrested

THE POLICE Administration has arrested three police constables, as it investigates them on the circumstances under which they shot and killed a suspected armed robber in Accra. The three, Constable Henry Fening, Constable Joshua Cudjoe and Constable Moro Tindana were being detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service after they shot dead the suspected robber at Danfa, a small community on the outskirts of Accra. 46 Drivers In Tarkwa Nsueam Fined GHC10,760

The Tarkwa Nsueam Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has prosecuted 80 drivers within one week for reckless driving and other road offenses.Out of the total, 46 were convicted and fined a total of GHC10,760, whilst 34 were warned and discharged.In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) commander for the municipality, Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP), Emmanuel Honu-Broni attributed the increase in road accident to irresponsible behaviour by road users, particularly drivers, non use of seat belt, use of defective vehicles, expired insurance and driving without approved licenses.ASP Honu-Broni mentioned driving under the influence of alcohol, wrongful over taking, non observance of road signs and over speeding as other causes of road accidents.He emphasized that most road accident in Ghana is avoidable and advised all drivers to be cautious on the road to avoid the frequent accidents.The MTTU commander called on drivers in the Municipality and the nation at large to help in the promotion of road safety.

Police Warns Public Against Instant Justice

The Police has sent a word of caution to community members across the country against taking the law into their own hands by meting out instant justice on suspected robbers.Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Odame, Akwatia District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday in an interview after a brutal assault on a suspected armed robber at Ekoso in the Eastern Region.The suspect, Kwabena Owusu, was alleged to have unlawfully entered the Ekoso branch of the Church of Christ International and stolen a loud speaker and microphone.He was found last Tuesday near the church building in a critical condition after the severe assault.Owusu, who hails from Anyinam, was rushed to the Asamankese Government Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.DSP Odame invited the elders of the town to the Osenase Police Station where he entreated them to advise the youth against any future instant justice.The commander said instead of killing suspected robbers, they should rather arrest them to enable the police to know their mode of operation and to apprehend their accomplices.“Instant justice is unlawful and must be shunned; after all a person is presumed innocent until pronounced guilty by the court,” he added.Ekoso is under the political administration of the West Akyem Municipal Assembly but is part of the Akwatia District Police.

18 suspects arrested in connection with recent murders in the Ashanti region

The Police Criminal Investigative Department has arrested eighteen suspects in connection with recent murders in the Ashanti region.Kwadwo Asamoah, Prince Opoku Anto, Joe Adusah Ayison, and Isaac Turkson were all murdered in the last couple of months.Ten suspects have so far been arrested in connection of Kwadwo Asamoah’s death which resulted from gangsterism. They have been arraigned and are on remand.

Serial Car Snatcher Jailed 70 Years

A 31-year-old trader who snatched several cars within Accra, Ashaiman and Kpong has finally been convicted and sentenced to 70 years’ imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.Presenting the facts before the court, presided over by Justice Francis Obiri Yeboah, the prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Reindorf Agyemang said between the year 2010 and 2012 the police recorded several car snatching incidents in various parts of the Accra metropolis.Similar incidents were recorded in Ashaiman and Kpong, he said.DSP Agyemang told the court that on March14, 2012 Michael and his accomplices chartered the complainant’s, Isaac Tawiah, Nissan taxi.On the way to the convict’s purported destination, the convict hit Isaac’s forehead with a hammer, dragged him out from the car and bolted.Michael and his accomplices later sold the car at Ashaiman.On April 9, 2012 Michael and his accomplices – Jordan and Kobby, now at large – attacked another complainant, Wang Ani Xiang, a Chinese businesswoman based in Tema Community 20.The complainant, according to the prosecutor, was attacked and robbed of her pump action gun with 20 packets of life ammunition, large sum of money, set of jewelleries and her Kia Cato saloon car.He said on April 13, 2012 Michael and the same accomplices attacked one George, another complainant, at Tema at gunpoint and robbed his unregistered Toyota Corolla saloon car and GH₵2,000.They sold the car for GH₵12,000 at Tema.
