Supreme Court Must Also Deal With Mahama, Others—Young Patriots
The Young Patriots of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has presented a list of persons including the President, John Dramani to the Supreme Court claiming they have also made comments about the election petition hearing which could be considered contemptuous.
The NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and a party activist, Hopeson Adorye have been summoned to appear before the Supreme Court on Wednesday for allegedly making contemptuous comments about the case.
But the NPP youth are asking the Court to also drag some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before it to answer questions over similar allegations.
In an interview with Citi News, Chairman of Young Patriots, Richard Nyamah mentioned that some of the individuals on their list include ‘the President himself, Mr. Alid Dawud who made his statement on 25th of June; the same day Sir John is alleged to have made his. Owula Mangote, on the 2nd of August and Stephen Atubiga again, just last Friday, 9th of August was on radio threatening the judges and threatening to sue them and take them to the USA for wrongfully jailing him.’
According to him, the NPP’s General Secretary Single-handedly ‘sanitized the airways he went further to go on the ground, going from constituency to constituency, region to regionand he has said that the party should be calm and whatever happens we will accept it because we went there for justice and if we do not believe in the Supreme Court, we would not have taken our case there.’
Mr. Nyamah insisted that Mr. Afriyie’s actions so far ‘has purged him from all that he may have said that are wrong and may have incurred the wrath of the Supreme Court.’
He added that Mr. Afriyie’s contemptuous comments were made ‘before the red line was drawn and beyond that Hopeson Adorye was reacting to Gabby Assuming [a member of the NDC]and the statement was simply asking the Peace Council to take note of what Gabby is saying because it had the potential of bringing civil warso if Hopeson must go, then Gabby Assuming must also be there.’
