Sunon Asogli Power Limited, an independent power producer, has denied media reports that it was demanding $50 million compensation from government over losses it incurred as a result the damage to the West Africa Gas Pipeline.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dela Amaglo, in a press release issued yesterday, said ‘management will like to put on record that at no point has there been any discussions related to the said issue of compensation and we would like to state unequivocally that we seek no such thing from the government.’

The statement further indicated: ‘It is clear that our chairman was taken out of context when he explained the losses suffered due to the damage and its related interruption to production of power by Sunon Asogli.’

The company expressed appreciation to government for the resumption of gas supply for production from the West African Gas pipeline.

Operations at the Sunon Asogli Power Company came to a halt in August, 2012 as a result of damage to the pipeline from Nigeria.

The damage to the pipeline led to the load shedding exercise, which lasted for more than 10 months.

The company is jointly funded by the Shenzhan Energy Group Limited and the China Africa Development Fund.

It employs about 80 expatriates, as well as 50 Ghanaians directly and provides indirect jobs to 200 Ghanaians.

Sunon Asogli provided around 200 megawatts of power to the national grid until the West Africa Gas Pipeline was damaged.
