Lewis overhauled South Korea’s Inbee Park – who held the top mantle for 59 weeks – with a resounding victory at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in New Jersey.
The 29-year-old previously occupied the top ranking for four weeks in 2013, and the two-time major winner is back at the helm of world golf after claiming her 10th LPGA Tour title, and her second ShopRite LPGA Classic in three years.
Lewis finished six shots clear of fellow American Christina Kim, who faltered in her final round to shoot a one-over 72 – after starting the day a stroke behind the eventual champion.
A four-under 67 saw Lewis cruise to the title, after she set up the win with a devastating eight-under 63 on Saturday.
South Korea’s Haeji Kang completed a solid week with a 69 to be tied for third on nine under, alongside Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist and Americans Gerina Piller and Jennifer Johnson.
Paraguay’s Julieta Granada was outright seventh on eight under, while final rounds of 66 saw each of South Korea’s Meena Lee and Spain’s Azahara Munoz rise to a share of eighth spot.
Alongside Lee and Munoz were China’s Shanshan Feng, Australia’s Karrie Webb and Park.
Park has endured an underwhelming 2014, going winless in 10 tournament starts, after her blistering 2013 season saw her win three majors and six tour titles overall.
