The Social Security and National insurance Trust SSNIT and its stakeholders has held a media tour of the affordable housing project at Borteyman in the Greater Accra.
During the tour, Engineer in charge of the project In. Joseph Kofi Allotey disclosed that the project is made up of 104 blocks which is over 1,536 apartments consisting of 744 one bedroom and 792 two bedroom apartments
He said over 37 contractors on site with a work force of 453 who commenced work between June and July 2014 but about 20 contractors will be undertaken to expedite execution process.
According to him,the project consultants include Messrs Modula group who are providing consulting services like Architectural, quantity surveying, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering service.
Director of Cooperate Affair at SSNIT, Mrs. Eva Amegashei said the board has already approved GH 195 million for the completion of the 1,536 housing units which were started in 2005 but stalled in 2009 due to lack of funding.
She said roads and drains, water and electricity and a central sewage treatment plant aremade available for the project.Each block is 4 story high building.
According to her, the estimated period of completion would vary due to the various stage of perfection with a maximum execution period of about 18 months for each stage.
The entire project, including Asokore, Mampong, Kumasi, koforidua, Tamale and Wa, are part of an intervention to address the housing deficit in the country.
