15.00 Dan Lucas will be here in an hour to talk you through the closing
ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In the meantime, why not read Simon
Hart‘s piece on Lizzy Yarnold carrying the flag for Great Britain
Skeleton gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold said her “incredible experience” in
Sochi had been made even more special after she was given the honour of
carrying the Union flag at Sunday’s closing ceremony.
The 25-year-old will lead Britain’s athletes into the Fisht Stadium after
being chosen as the flag-bearer by Team GB chef de mission Mike Hay and his
two deputies in recognition of her outstanding achievement on the ice track
nine days ago.
“It’s been an indescribable experience here in Sochi,” Yarnold said. “I
came to these Games with the goal of competing to the best of my ability,
doing my country proud, and supporting my team-mates across all of Team GB.
“To have been selected for this honour is so far beyond anything I could
have ever imagined. It makes what has already been an incredible experience
just that much more special, and I am extremely grateful.”
