Maya Yoshida had given the Saints an early lead but goals from Matt Jarvis, Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan earned the Hammers a fourth consecutive league victory.

Southampton started brightly and were rewarded for their efforts when Yoshida headed into the West Ham goal.

Sam Allardyce’s men responded immediately as Jarvis latched on to a great ball from Nolan and fired in the equaliser.

Cole then turned the game on its head by putting West Ham 2-1 up just three minutes later, smashing the ball in from six yards out.

Nolan sealed the win in the second half with a well-time volley for his fifth goal of the month.

Mo Diame struck the post late on, but despite Southampton’s best efforts to get back in the game, West Ham held on to clinch another vital three points.
