Liverpool overtook Manchester City as the Premier League’s leading scorers as two goals each from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson earned this win.

And Liverpool manager Rodgers said he will not follow the Jose Mourinho route of grinding out 1-0 wins.

He said: “It’s not our style. I work always to play good football. I’m not one that’s totally satisfied about results. It’s the point of the season that’s about winning, that’s what professional sport is about at this level.

“But for us I’ll always concentrate on performance because the consequence of performing well consistently is you get results. We’ve shown that this season.

“We did not defend anywhere near well enough but the offensive side of our game was excellent.”

With fifth-placed Spurs losing at Norwich, Liverpool now have a six-point gap in fourth while Manchester United are 11 points behind them.

Swansea manager Garry Monk was proud of his team’s effort. He said: “I hate losing but if you have to lose you have to do it in the right way by making the other team fight right to the end. And that is what we did.”
