Southern Kaduna wants PDP chairmanship

Southern Kaduna Concerned Citizens (SKCC) has raised alarm over the alleged appointment of the former deputy state chairman of PDP, Alhaji Isiyaku Balarabe Aliyu as the acting party chairman, saying they want the position retained in their zone.

Chairman of the group, Comrade Joel Wakili in a press conference described the purported appointment of Alhaji Isiyaku Aliyu as acting chairman of state PDP as published in one of the national dailies as a despicable move to alienate the southern Kaduna people in the new scheme of affairs by depriving them of the chairmanship of the party.
According to the group, the said news item is likely to be a kite being flown by powerful interest groups to pave way for a major breach of sections 14(5) and 47(6) of both the old and new PDP constitutions as it affects the current situation in Kaduna state following the demise of late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa.
“We view the statements credited to Alhaji Isiyaku as an attempt by powerful political interest groups to wrongly appropriate the chairmanship position of the party to the northern zone and in flagrant violation of the party constitution,” he said.
Sections 14 (5) and 47 (6) of both the old and new constitutions of PDP states that: “Where a vacancy occurs in any of the offices of the party, the Executive committee at the appropriate level shall apppoint another person from the area or zone where the officer originated from pending the conduct of election to fill the vacancy” he stated.
In a letter addressed to Governor Mukhtar R. Yero, the group said since the demise of late Governor Patrick Yakowa, major positions in government and in the party hierarchy at both state and national levels became blatantly skewed in favour of northern Kaduna.
The group however pointed out that the implication of alienating the Southern Kaduna people in the current scheme of things saying this might re-open old wounds.
The group said any attempt to alienate the Southern Kaduna people is likely to engender a major political re-alignment and electoral revolt through protest votes in 2015 noting that since 1999, the Southern Kaduna axis has served as the major stronghold of the PDP in Kaduna state.
