Mary Miah, wife of the Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Koforidua, has described single parenting as a very challenging experience which requires a high level of endurance.
Mrs. Miah said this in an interview with DAILY GUIDE at the just ended Church of Pentecost Easter Convention which was held at the Jackson Park in Koforidua.
She said several factors such as the death of a spouse, divorce, separation and unplanned relationship which resulted in pregnancy among others, led to single parenting.
She noted that single parenting existed years back but was rather taking a frightening trend these days as a result of the youth entering into relationships without serious considerations of the character and dependability of their partners.
Mrs. Miah said single parents, besides being confronted with financial challenges in most cases, were also faced with the challenge of nurturing the children to conform to the best practices of society.
She further said that in such conditions the single parent was tempted to rush into courtship, which in most cases, resulted in further crisis when the new partner turned rather irresponsible.
She reiterated that the society must support single parents and the church should provide a platform for education and counselling, adding that such children are members of society and their successful upbringing benefits society as well.
Mrs. Miah also urged them to rely absolutely on Jesus Christ and nurture the children along biblical instructions.
