Scratch to showcase Syncos at WOMEX
The CEO of the Accra-based Scratch Studios and Entertainment Limited, Kofi Amoakohene, leaves Accra tomorrow, October 20 for Cardiff, Wales to participate in this year’s World Music Expo (WOMEX), the most important international professional market of world music of every kind. A WOMEX exposition is held annually in different locations throughout Europe. WOMEX 2012 was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. This year’s event is scheduled to come off from Tuesday, October 22 to Sunday, October 27.
It will integrate a trade fair, showcases, conferences, film market, networking sessions and an awards scheme. Musicians and delegates have the possibility to make contacts for international touring and album distribution.
Scratch is a one-stop music outfit based at East Legon in Accra. According to the CEO, his outfit would aggressively market music by artistes on its label who include Steve Bedi, Paulette Broohm, Elivava, Freeman Ame, Oswald Kouame, Owura K. and Eugene Hus.
‘Syncos is a vibrant mix of attractive African elements with contemporary feels from other places. Scratch has cultivated that style of music over the last few years and we believe the world is ready for it,’ Amoakohene says.
Scratch was represented earlier in the year at another big global music fair, Marché International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale (MIDEM) held in Cannes, France. According to Amoakohene, MIDEM afforded a wonderful chance to Scratch to highlight its artistes and Ghanaian music in general.
‘This time around at WOMEX, we are concentrating more on the artistes on our label. We trust some good deals can be clinched for some of them.’
Two other experienced personalities in the music business, recording engineer and producer, Appiah ‘Appietus’ Dankwa and Paa Kwesi Holbrook-Smith of Scratch will also be at WOMEX by courtesy of the British Council Ghana office.
