Samini For Black Canadian Awards
Ghana’s award-winning Dancehall king, Emmanuel Andrews Samini known in the music scene as Samini has been nominated for the Best International Act in the 2014 Black Canadian Awards.
The Black Canadian Awards instituted by the largest Black Canadian community in Canada seeks to honour outstanding people who have contributed immensely in various facets of life in this period marking the Black History Month.
Having performed creditably in the Ghanaian music scene, the organizing committee of the Black Canadian Awards, at the selection meeting, unanimously selected Samini as a nominee from Ghana and Africa.
According to Samini, even though there were some key contenders for the awards, he stood out, adding that Ghanaians and the world loved his songs.
Samini is competing with Alison Hinds, Lira, Khuli Chana, Waje, Destra Garcia for the International Act of the Year category.
The event, which is being organised by the Diversity Advancement Network, is scheduled for March 1, 2014 at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto.
Ghana’s Dancehall artiste Samini, in 2011, won the Channel O Music Video Award for Most Gifted Reggae/Dancehall Video at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Like many of Ghana’s current musicians, Samini honed his talents through the church before hitting the stage at 17.
After a series of collaborations, in 2002 he got a record deal and made his first album, the chart-topping ‘ Dankwansere’ . His song ‘Linda’ is still one of Ghana’s most loved.
In recent years, Samini has performed with, (and sometimes upstaged) Akon, Beenie Man, Mavado, Wayne Wonder, Kevin Little and a host of others.
He has toured the UK, Italy, Germany http://www.flyglobalmusic.com/tag/germany/ , Holland, Canada, Nigeria and other places.
