Robber Stabs Victims
The swift intervention of the Odorkor District police Command at dawn yesterday prevented residents of Kwashieman Official Town – a suburb of Accra – from lynching a 31-year-old suspected armed robber who allegedly stabbed two occupants of a house after his attempt to rob the household had failed.
One of the victims, Bernard Adjei, 37, had his intestines gushing out as a result of the attack while his cotenant, Eric Aryee, 34 years, also had his ears chopped off.
The suspect, Richard Dido, who sustained various degrees of injury following the beatings, was sent to the Police Hospital for treatment and has since been treated and detained by the police.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE on the incident, Superintendent Abraham Acquaye, Odokor District Police Commander, said the incident occurred around 2:00 am.
He asserted that the police received information that there was an armed robbery attack at Official Town.
The police patrol team, then patrolling the Kwashieman area, was immediately called to the scene.
On getting to the house where the attack allegedly took place, according to Superintendent Acquaye, some residents were seen beating up a young man who gave his name as Richard Dido, while the two victims – Bernard and Eric – lay on the floor with blood oozing profusely from their bodies.
The suspect was immediately rescued while Bernard and Eric were rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Police Hospital respectively for treatment.
Superintendent Abraham Acquaye disclosed that preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that Richard Dido scaled the wall to the compound of the house to rob.
He first entered the room of Bernard who was then asleep and when he saw the suspect and had wanted to arrest him, he (suspect) stabbed him indiscriminately inside his room.
While attempting to escape, the other victim, Eric Aryee, heard of the noise and entered the room to find out what was amiss but Dido, holding two knives, managed to slash his (Aryee’s) ears.
Eric raised an alarm and with the help of some residents, suspect Richard Dido was apprehended and nearly lynched.
He is in custody assisting in investigations.
Meanwhile, Benard Adjei whose condition was critical, is currently responding to treatment.
Superintendent Acquaye urged individuals to always volunteer information to the police and assist in apprehending suspected criminals.
