The Police Administration has indicated that some major roads in parts of Accra will be closed to traffic to pave way for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Summit which.

The two-day conference, which will be attended by leaders from the sub-region, will commence on tomorrow, July 10 and end on Friday, July 11, 2014.

Roads from the Airport through to Movenpick Ambassador Hotel as well as Labadi to Accra, will be affected.

ACP Angwubutoge Awuni, Director-General in-charge of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, told the media that some of the roads would be diverted to pave way for traffic, but police personnel would be stationed at vantage points to regulate traffic flow.

He urged the public to cooperate with the police to provide the needed security for the Heads of States who would be attending the Summit.

DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Accra Regional Police Commander, said more police personnel would be deployed to check criminal activities during the period.

He noted that the police would intensify their day and night patrols as well as their visibility – involving all the seven divisional commanders and the 30 district commanders.

‘Senior police officers currently on leave have been called back to assist provide security within this period,’ DCOP Yohuno underscored.

He assured the public of their safety and stressed the preparedness of the police to combat any foreign crimes that might crop up.

‘Intelligence will be intensified; and I urge Ghanaians to volunteer information leading to the arrest of suspected criminals or call the toll-free number: 18555, for rapid response,’ he entreated.
