Recce Regiment marks anniversary with health walk
Officers and men of the Recce Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at the weekend went on a health walk in Accra, as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the unit.
Wives of the military personnel also participated in the walk, which started from Burma Camp to the 37 Military Hospital area and back to the unit, where a health screening exercise was organised for them.
The anniversary started with a media launch in June, this year, and followed with an Open Day on July 1, 2013, where students toured facilities of the unit.
Other activities lined up for the anniversary are a lecture on ‘Recce Regiment – past, present and future’ on September 17, 2013, Gymkhana (horse riding show) on October 24, 2013 and an anniversary parade on November 29, 2013.
There will be a dinner dance on December 14, 2013. The activities will be climaxed with a thanksgiving religious parade on January 8, 2014.
After the exercise, the Commanding Officer of the Recce Regiment, Lt. Col. Ben Gah, told the Daily Graphic that the activities were meant to create public awareness about the unit in line with promoting military-civilian relationship.
The Recce Regiment was established on June 12, 1963 and has since undergone various transformations.
The second squadron of the unit was moved from Ho to Sunyani later and the unit has been responsible for housing horses of the GAF.
