Prez Mahama Commends UK For Supporting Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama said on Tuesday that the United Kingdom (UK) had over the years proved herself as a worthy development partner in the socio-economic development of Ghana.

” Over the years the United Kingdom through the Department for International Development (DFID) has contributed tremendously in education, Health and the economy, among other sectors”, he said.

President Mahama stated this when Lynne Featherstone, the UK’s Minister responsible for Africa called on him at the Flagstaff House, Kanda for a closed- door meeting.

The Minister is in the country to establish synergies with Ghana in the areas of wealth and job creation for women and gender equality in all the sectors of development.

President Mahama before the closed- door meeting, said the Minister’s visit was timely as Ghana was currently facing economic challenges that had seen the Ghanaian Cedi fast depreciating against the United States dollar and other major currencies.

He said government would continue to forge ahead with its development partners to come out of the current challenges which he described as ‘short term’.

Ms Featherstone said her meeting was also a follow-up to President Mahama’s pledge at the G8 to ensure transparency in the extractive industry and other sectors of Development. Accompanying the Minister was the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Peter Jones.
