A statement issued by the party’s National Secretary Kofi Asamoah-Siaw says the PPP has placed on record the need for fundamental reforms in the way elections are organized in Ghana and the urgent need to strengthen the institutional framework, human capital and systems of the Electoral Commission.

According to the statement the party has written to the EC and requested the opportunity to meet and discuss the problems the party encountered in the 2012 elections and is still waiting for the response of the EC.

The statement further said as the PPP celebrates its one year anniversary on 25 February 2013, it will demonstrate the discipline and ideas-based campaign it demonstrated in 2012.

According to the statement, many Ghanaians have encouraged the party to continue building the PPP as an independent alternative to the NDC and the NPP.

It says its participation in the two bye-elections will give many people who have come to join the PPP since the opportunity to help spread the party’s progressive, centrist ideology.

It therefore called on all members, supporters and well-wishers to contribute money, campaign materials and time to make the participation in these two bye-elections successful.

It has assured Ghanaians that the PPP will continue to be an active, vigorous, relentless advocate for electoral reforms in Ghana.
