The lifeless body of the 70-year-old grandmother, Ena Manya, was discovered last Wednesday by some family members who screamed to attract the attention of neighbours.
DAILY GUIDE learnt that the suspect accused his grandmother of being the main cause of his cousin – an excellent footballer – not being able to develop his skills well enough to be selected for the just-ended World Cup in Brazil.
The suspect then allegedly strangled the old woman to death after claiming that her witchcraft had denied the family an opportunity to be represented in Ghana’s World Cup squad.
A 38-year-old man, Patrick Nuamah, after allegedly committing the alleged crime, bolted.
The horrifying event was said to have taken place on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
An eyewitness told the police that Wednesday morning, Ena Manya rushed to her in tears claiming that the grandson had entered her room and picked a broom to beat her.
‘But before members of the family could get to the house, Nuamah had already strangled the grandmother to death and left the scene,’ the District Commander said.
He said the police were doing everything possible to get hold of Nuamah, with the body of the deceased having been sent to the hospital for autopsy.
