Police Chiefs Storm K’si For Otumfuo

HIGH-RANKING personnel of the Ghana Police Service have descended on Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, to help provide adequate security during the grand durbar to commemorate the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 15 years on the Golden Stool.

The police capos who have travelled from the Headquarters in Accra to Kumasi are COP Prosper Agblor, Director-General of CID; COP John Kudalor, Director-General, Operations and ACP Awuni, Director- General, MTTD.

The rest are DCOP Augustine Gyenning, Director-General, Patrol Department; Chief Supt. Hamza Yakubu, Director, Formed Police Unit and ACP Sika Nartey, Director, Projects.

The historic event, which would take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, would see the highly revered Golden Stool – believed to posses special powers that bind the Asante Kingdom together – being taken out for public view for the first time in five years.

The grand durbar, which would be used to showcase the rich Ashanti culture, would be attended by some world leaders, traditional rulers on the African continent and people from all walks of life.

The police capos are in the region to collaborate with the Ashanti Regional Command, headed by DCOP Kofi Boakye, to provide adequate security so that the much publicized event would not be hampered by any eventuality.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, DCOP Kofi Boakye stated that the police were on top of the security situation, adding that they would ensure that peace and order was maintained for all law-abiding people to enjoy the programme.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander said two police posts would be created at the stadium, and that the Police Hospital van would be at the stadium to provide adequate healthcare for the people, among other arrangements.

DCOP Kofi Boakye sternly cautioned criminals to stay away from the programme, indicating that they would be arrested and dealt with according to the law if they tried to operate at the stadium or in the city that day.

On behalf of the Police Administration, he congratulated the Asantehene on his 64 th  birthday as well as his 15 years’ reign as the Asante King.
