PDP Governors May Form New Political Party
Plans are underway, by a few Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to float a new political party.
Govs. Sule Lamido of Jigawa state, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state, Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state, and Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers state have been reported to have applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of the new party.
The new party, called Voice of the People (VOP), is reported to bear the logo of a single horse standing on its hind legs, superimposed on a white colour with green and brown colours on its right and left sides.
Although reports indicate that the application for registration of the Voice of the People has been filed with INEC, when contacted this morning (Monday), Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu neither confirmed nor denied the report. According to Mr Idowu, the Commission receives an average of one political party registration request every week.
“To say the least I am not conversant with the identity of any political party seeking registration for now. The Commission receives an average of one party registration request per week, as you know registering political parties now in Nigeria has been turned into something else” he said.
So far, none of the PDP governors have made any comments on the new party.
