Nigeria’s first lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, on Friday led a delegation of women on a condolence visit to the house of retired Justice Idris Kutigi over the death of his wife, late Hajia Maryam Kutigi.
Speaking in Abuja, the first lady described the deceased as a great companion to her husband.
“On behalf of Nigerian women, we have come to condole and sympathise with you and your family” she said. “It is not an easy thing to lose a beloved wife, a woman you have shared part of your life with”.
Jonathan said Maryam’s May 28 death was the will of God.
“God knows best for taking her, especially at this time of your national assignment at the National Conference” Mrs Jonathan said.
The first lady prayed that God would strengthen the retired justice as well as fill the space Maryam’s death had created.
“God will give you the wisdom at this time to enable you carry out your assignment at the Conference successfully” she said. “We pray that God should give her eternal rest and also console the family”.
Responding on behalf of the family, Hajia Maimuna Kutigi, thanked Mrs Jonathan for the visit and her support for the family.
Among the first lady’s entourage were Hajiya Bola Shagaya, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, wives of some legislators, ministers and women leaders.
