Organizers React To Miss Universe Claims
Roberta Annan Consulting (RAC), organizers of the Miss Universe Ghana, has denied claims by Hanniel Jamin, winner of the 2013 beauty pageant, that she was forced to sign documents to cover prizes she never received.
This was contained in the statement of defense of the defendant filed by its lawyer, Martin Agyen-Sampong dated May 9, 2014, in Accra.
Ms Jamin claimed RAC confiscated prizes she received from the organizers of the international pageant in Russia.
The organizers also alleged the beauty queen had signed documents to acknowledge receipt of her prize package.
According to them, the plaintiff, Haniel reported a case of kidnapping against the defendants but after investigations by the police they realized that it was false and warned the beauty queen to desist from such behavior.
In addition, they stated that the plaintiff breached the terms of the contract by failing to go to the gym, which they had arranged for her, and signed a music agreement without the knowledge of the organizers.
The organizers noted that the story, which was given prominence by some radio stations such as Joy FM, has become a source of worry for them (organizers) and their business partners.
They explained that the reliefs sought by the plaintiff were premature and demand Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve the matter.
It would be recalled that Haniel sued the organizers at an Accra High Court and alleged that they had secretly enthroned another queen to take part in the international pageant in Russia.
According to her, they ransacked her suitcases and threw her belongings on the floor at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon her arrival in Ghana and also took all the prizes she received from the organizers in Russia.
The beauty queen claimed RAC forced her to remove the dress she wore upon arrival at KIA and wanted to whisk her away without the knowledge of her family.
Haniel wants a refund of GH¢9,250, being her allowance, as well as specific damages of GH¢5,000 to cover the prizes and monies that RAC confiscated, among other expenses.
