Opposition Parties Are Sleeping On The Job – Prof Karikari
A senior lecturer at the School of Communication Studies of the University of Ghana, Professor Kwame Karikari has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to put government on its toes.
According to him, the NPP has failed to hold government accountable on the many issues affecting the economy.
Prof Karikari who was speaking at the West Africa Contract Monitoring Network Forum organised by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, said ‘the opposition parties are asleep. The NPPin fact they are spending more time eating each other up than targeting all the exposé the media houses are doing.’
‘It’s like the NPP doesn’t care. Maybe they are waiting to perpetrate the same thing,’ he said.
Prof Karikari’s concern comes in the wake of criticisms of the NPP for their constant boycott of national programmes such as the National Economic Forum which was organized by government for all stakeholders to deliberate and find effective ways through which the country’s economy could be revived and stabilized.
The former director of the Media Foundation for West Africa therefore, charged the media to take up the responsibility that has been neglected by the opposition party and ensure that the masses are well informed on issues that affect their lives.
‘If the political parties and their leaders are not interested, we (media) should make sure the masses are interested and cast their votes and express their views in so many different ways,’ he said.
