One for the Fatherland: Martin Kaymer: I hope Bernhard Langer, Germany are proud

Kaymer’s dominance of the year’s second major was completed with a remarkable eight-shot victory at Pinehurst.

Like two-time Masters champion Langer, Kaymer has claimed a pair of majors after his 2010 PGA Championship victory.

Kaymer, 29, hopes the 56-year-old and the European nation are proud of what he has achieved.

“We have almost a German gland slam, almost, it’s only the British Open missing,” Kaymer told a news conference after his US Open win.

“To win the Masters, it’s a huge thing. Obviously that’s why I need (to) adjust a few things in my swing in order to play better golf there.

“Winning the PGA, winning this one now, I hope it will make Bernhard proud. I’m sure it will make all Germany proud.”

Kaymer set up his win with consecutive five-under 65s to open the tournament before shooting solid rounds of 72 and 69.

He was delighted with his effort, particularly under pressure on the weekend.

“I played very solid the first two days and that gave me a very nice cushion for the weekend, but to shoot only one-over par in Pinehurst on Saturday and Sunday is good,” Kaymer said.

“The way I played I was very happy, the way I kept it together yesterday. And that gave me a good cushion for today.”
