Okantah-Odumase Grateful To Police
The people of Okantah-Odumase, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, have expressed gratitude to Ghana Police Service, for enforcing the arrest of land guards, who were terrorising the community.
Nana Kwabena Owusu, Odikro (Chief) of Okantah-Odumase, who gave the commendation at a durbar, thanked the Kibi Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Cephas Bediako and his personnel for causing the arrest of the criminals.
The residents of Okantah-Odumase, a farming community on July 7, appealed to the Inspector General of Police for protection as a result of frequent harassment by land guards.
The situation caused women, children and some of the youth to flee the town due to the threat of death by the land guards who were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.
In September, the Divisional Police Command carried out a swoop at the hideout of the criminals and eight criminals of them including three women who offered them accommodation.
When their rooms were searched two military uniforms, seven large parcels of black polythene bags full of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were found.
Other items discovered were one single-barrel gun, 12 mobile phones, six cutlasses, two sharp knives, a master key, one big scissors and one catapult.
Nana Kwabena Owusu told the Ghana News Agency that people in the community are now enjoying peace.GNA
