The National Chairman and Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has admonished sympathizsers and members of the elephant family to bury their differences and join forces to unseat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), come 2016.

According to Mr. Afoko, since the 2016 general elections was crucially important to the Ghanaian people, it would be in the supreme interest of members of the party to eschew their differences and parochial interests, and put the party first in all their doings. “The NPP”, he told the party faithful, “cannot afford to fail Ghanaians.”

Mr. Afoko made these observations in his maiden interaction with the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra yesterday. He was joined by all the new officers, except the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, who was represented by his aide.

He said in order to position the NPP well for victory in 2016, his priority was to oversee the strengthening of the various structures of the party at all levels, which include, among other things, the review of the composition and leadership of the various committees, and reconstitution of the National Council, in accordance with the party’s constitution.

The party chair also called for the resolving all outstanding issues relating to the pillars of the party, from the polling stations through to the constituency, regional, and national levels.

Unnecessary media circus
With the difficult task at hand, Mr. Afoko, however, appealed passionately to all flagbearer-hopefuls and their supporters to stop the unnecessary media circus, and rally behind the party’s new leadership, and to reconcile all members.

“You will agree with me that whoever is elected to lead us into the general elections will need a united, strong, and a battle-ready party to achieve our goal of victory at the next elections,” he stressed.

Espousing on his unity drive, Mr. Afoko said he would need all party members onboard, in order to achieve victory in the 2016 general elections.

He, therefore, invited all party faithful who had, in one way or the other “become inactive and withdrawn for one reason or the other, to come back to the fold and contribute actively and meaningfully for the success of our party.”

“Indeed, I am inviting all who love this party to come on board and let’s work together to take our party back to power. It is in our collective interest to bury our differences and work together for our survival. Your party needs you now!” he added.
