Flag-bearer hopefuls of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will meet today to deliberate on the current happenings in the party, Today has gathered.

The meeting which is being organised by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman and flag-bearer hopeful of the party is expected to be attended by all the six NPP members who have picked forms to contest to lead the party to the 2016 General Elections.

Mr. John Alan Kyeremanten, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, Mr. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Mr. Joe Ghartey, Mr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Hon. Francis Addai-Nimo and Hon. Kofi Osei-Ameyaw are all expected to be at this crisis meeting which will discuss the future of the party.

A copy of a letter summoning all the six aspirants for the meeting which have been cited by this paper tells that the recent happenings in the party have necessitated the call for the ‘crisis’ meeting.

“Indeed, as candidates to such a high office, we must demonstrate good leadership qualities and desire for unity within the party devoid of acrimony, rancor and divisiveness.

“In this way, we shall be marching on in peace and reliability on each other for power in 2016, but it is sad to note that the current events and developments in our party following the National Officers elections in Tamale can only be described as worrying…,” portions of the letter dated 25th May, 2014 and signed by the MP for Asuogyaman stated.

Titled, invitation to a meeting of all New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate aspirants addressed to all the six flag-bearer aspirants, the letter conveys that the meeting will deliberate on the way forward for the party which has recently recorded an escalating tension within its ranks which has led to clashes among supporters of the party.

The latest of such clashes was between old and new body guards at the party headquarters which led to injury to persons and destruction of properties belonging to the party.

“It is in the light of the forgoing [tension] that I respectfully invite you to a meeting to deliberate on the issues stated above so that we can chart the way forward for victory for our party come 2016…,” Hon. Osei-Ameyaw states in his letter.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM with its outcome expected to save the NPP from the current mishaps in the party.
