Norwusu Chastises ‘Sir John’ For Early Promotion Of Nana
The statement made by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie that the defeated Presidential Candidate of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo would lead the party even if he is in a wheelchair has been criticized by the Chairman of the NPP in the Volta region, Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu.
According to Kenwuud Nuworsu, the just ended court case that the Party lost had helped in deepening unity of the party and that the General Secretary’s utterances was wrongly timed and not in the interest of the party.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Chronicle in Ho, Mr. Nuworsu stressed that Nana Addo still remained a credible candidate who had been tested over the years but that does not rest in anybody to set the agenda for Nana, because he (Nana Addo) had made it clear to take some rest and ponder over his political carrier.
Mr. Nuworsu stressed that this is the time for the Party leadership to start building its structures at all levels by identifying major difficulties in the 2012 general elections and tried to address those challenges rather than the General Secretary of the Party to start pointing at who should be leading the party in 2016 general elections.
The Volta Regional Secretary of the NPP continued that it was very important for the General Secretary of the Party to avoid making statements that would to bring division into the party at the time that it was enjoying high level of unity as well as Nana Addo being commended by people from all walks of life, locally and internationally for accepting the verdict.
Mr. Nuworsu pointed out that there was mutual suspicion between the Electoral Commission (EC) and the NPP which to him should be of much concern to the party and try to address such concerns at this time rather than thinking of who should lead the party in 2016.
He said the party should at this time focus on how to strengthen the internal structures to start preparations towards the 2016 general elections and advised that the issue of who should lead the party at this time was not necessary. To him building strong structures for the party was crucial in order to firmly enter 2016 election with much confident.
A strong member of the NPP in the Volta region, Mr. Muda Tashiru also in an interview noted that he had not recovered from the defeat of the party in the just ended Supreme Court verdict and that the Statement of the General Secretary was very unfortunate. He urged leaders of the party to be mindful of what they say in order not to tarnish the image of the party.
Muda Tashiru continued that bad statements made by leaders of the party most of the times created major problem to what he described as ‘die hard members’ of the NPP like him.
He stressed that the General Secretary and others who had the intention of making unpalatable comments to exercise patience as well as consider the impact of such statement on the party.
He said the NPP is a political party with qualified and experienced individuals who could lead the party if given the opportunity by the party noting that the statement of the Secretary created the impression that there were no other capable persons within the NPP who could lead it, apart from Nana Addo.
