No Security, No Work – KATH Doctors Declare Strike

0ed0279232647 268591 No Security, No Work – KATH Doctors Declare StrikeDoctors at the Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi have declared an indefinite strike following an attack on hospital staff early Thursday.

The doctors after an emergency meeting on Friday, concluded there could be further attacks on their lives. They told Ultimate Radio until maximum security is beefed at the Hospital as well as their residences, they will remain on strike.

They also want management of the Hospital to clear itself of any wrongdoing in order not to create the impression that the workers were stealing babies. A member of the Ghana Medical Association, who doubles as a doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Lawrence Osei Tutu, told Ultimate Radio the attackers have threatened to return to the Hospital.

“We had an emergency meeting and the decision was that we are not satisfied with what is going on. The guys are still going around on radio and threatening to come back this Monday to attack us. We have seen enough of the security the Hospital claims to be putting in place. And we also want the management to come out very clearly and explain to the public what the issues are with this missing baby brouhaha.

“Following that, we decided to withdraw our services from KATH until such measures are put in place. We fear for our lives and we don’t feel comfortable coming to work. So with immediate.”

How can you have police personnel only at A-Block because they attacked A-Block? If they know the police are at A-Block will they come back to A-Block? So what happens to the other blocks that we work in? So until we see visible and palpable police presence, and until Management comes out to take the lead role and responsibility for what happened, and not for people to be twisting the matter as if doctors and nurses are in the Hospital stealing babies so they are coming to attack us we will not work. With this one, they threatened to come and they came. Nothing was done about it” he noted.

They are calling on the management of the Hospital to officially respond to the issues and desist from rather spending time on radio trying to explain their position. The doctors also want the police to arrest more of the attackers and bring them to book.
