Nigeria’s Yahaya-Aboubacar Hassiatou has qualified for the judo event of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
Hassiatou, who qualified by the universality system of the International Judo Federation, will represent Nigeria in the female over 52kg and under 63kg weight categories of the event.
The IJF released the list of qualified athletes for the games on March 22 on its website. The list has 104 athletes, comprising 52 male and females each, from 68 countries, in eight weight categories.
Hassiatou will battle for honours at the games against athletes from Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, Guinea, Netherlands, Cote d’Ivoire, Serbia, Zambia, Great Britain, among others.
Nigeria and 31 other countries had one athlete each in the final qualification list while 36 countries had two athletes each. Such countries include, China, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Turkey, the USA, Russia, among others.
Africa has nine representatives in the list; they are Botswana, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia, Zambia and Algeria.
