Yobo fit for Norwich, Baggies clash

Joseph Yobo

Senior central defenders Joseph Yobo and Michael Turner should both be available for Norwich City’s crunch clash with West Bromwich Albion, manager Chris Hughton has revealed.

Yobo missed the 3-0 defeat at Swansea City last weekend after picking up a calf injury in training the day before the game, with Ryan Bennett brought in alongside skipper Sebastien Bassong in the Nigeria captain’s absence, Norwich Evening News reports.

The on-loan defender should be fine for the visit of the Baggies to Carrow Road though, as should fellow centre-back Turner, who has been back in full training in recent weeks following a hamstring injury which has seen him out of action since the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day.

“He’s going to be out on the training pitch on Thursday,” Hughton said of Yobo, speaking to Norwich City TV. “He’s been okay this week, so we’re quite confident that he’ll come through that and on Friday.

“Michael Turner’s in the squad. The decision last week was that Ryan Bennett was perhaps a bit more up to speed than where Michael was, but he’s been training well for the last few weeks and he also comes into contention.”

West Brom arrive in Norfolk just three points and two places adrift of the Canaries in the Premier League table, as both team strive to pull away from the relegation zone.

With City unbeaten in six league games at Carrow Road in 2014, having conceded just one goal, a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Stoke, Hughton is going into the game feeling confident.

“They’re a team that’s fighting with us to keep a good position in this league, and they’ve got some very good players so we can’t afford to underestimate them,” he said.

“We are at home, so whichever way that we do it it’s three points that we want and need. It’s at Carrow Road so we haven’t got to worry too much about the opposition.

“The club has done great in their preparations for these games, but of course the really important thing is that we as a team give the supporters enough for them to get behind us.”
