Iran striker Ashkan Dejagah insists his country will beat African champions Nigeria in their first match at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Iran have been drawn against Nigeria, Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group F of the competition.
Iran will play Nigeria in Curitiba on June 16 and Fulham forward Dejagah says he believes his team will defeat the Super Eagles.
“All three matches in group stage are important, but we have to defeat Nigeria since it’s our opening match,” the 27-year-old former Hertha star told his club’s official website.
Nigeria and Iran have not clashed at full international level.
Dejagah scored a crucial winner to help Fulham to a much-needed win over Newcastle United on Saturday.
However, Fulham remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
