The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, on Friday charged political leaders in the country to intensify efforts in satisfying the needs of the people.
Abubakar gave the charge in Katsina at the inauguration of Shehu Usman Dan Fodiyo Friday mosque constructed by the state government.
He said that politicians were elected to serve the people and the nation, hence the need for them to give priority to the welfare of the electorate.
Abubakar said that they should try to emulate past leaders who were being remembered for the selfless services they rendered to people.
He urged the followers to continue to pray for the well-being of the leaders and for peace and unity in the country.
The sultan noted that development could only be achieved in peaceful environment, urging Muslims faithful to reflect on the teachings of Islam and respect the faith of other believers
Also speaking, Gov. Ibrahim Shema said that his administration had constructed more than 500 mosques across the state in the past six years.
He urged clerics to continue to pray for peace, unity and stability of the nation.
Shema assured that the state government would continue to execute projects that would improve the living condition of its people.
